Title: The importance of the IoT Ecosystem & Value Proposition

Brief Biography:

Dr. Rajeev Kanth received a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Information and Communication Technology from the University of Turku, Finland, in 2013. He has achieved the title of Adjunct Professor (Data Science) at the University of Turku Finland and currently working as a Senior Lecturer at the Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Finland, where he is focusing on teaching and research on the Internet of Things (IoT). Previously, he has worked at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Ahmedabad India, Royal Institute of the Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, and the University of Turku (UTU), Finland, where he has been a researcher, Post-doctoral Researcher, and the Senior Researcher respectively. He has over 20 years of experience working in an academic and research institution. His current research interests include the Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Wireless Cloud and Edge Computing. He has published more than 60 scientific articles in peer-reviewed conference proceedings and refereed journals in the field of computer science and communication technology. He has been a member of the IEEE communication society, IEEE cloud computing community, IEEE Earth Observation Community, and the green ICT community.

Title: AI and Robotics in Production Agriculture: Global Perspective and Local Context .

Brief Biography:

Dr. Karkee joined Washington State University (WSU) in 2010 where he leads a strong research program in agricultural automation and mechanization area with a particular emphasis on machine vision and sensing technologies for agricultural automation and robotics. He has been working on numerous sponsored projects in this area, including apple crop load estimation, apple and cherry harvesting, fruit tree and berry bush pruning, blossom thinning, water and nutrient stress monitoring, weed control in vegetable crops, and Big-data based SMART irrigation system for winegrapes. Dr. Karkee has been actively publishing in such journals as ‘Journal of Field Robotics’, ‘Computers and Electronics in Agriculture’, ‘Biosystems Engineering’ and ‘The Transactions of ASABE’ and has frequently presented in national and international conferences. Dr. Karkee currently serves as an Associate Editor of ‘Transactions of the ASABE’ and ‘Applied Engineering in Agriculture’, and as an Guest Editor for ‘Robotics’. He is the elected chair of Technical Committee 8.1, Control in Agriculture, International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) serving the term from, 2017 to 2020.

Dr. Tshering Lama
Executive Chairman and Co-founder of Idea Studio, Nepal

Brief Biography:

Dr Tshering Lama (PhD. MPH. BSc.) Dr. Tshering Lama, graduated from Northumbria University, UK with BSc (HONS) Health Development Studies, Masters of Public Health and Ph.D. in Telemedicine. In 2015 he completed executive course on the Global Leadership and Public Policy for the 21st century from Harvard University, John, F. Kennedy School of Governance, USA. Beside his academic achievement, he was awarded with the first ever Lord Glenamara International Scholarship in recognition of his efforts in improving public health and the environment through volunteering initiatives. His worked and education earned him the International Student of the Year 2006 award in the UK. He was further honored by Northumbria University by establishing 20 scholarships for Nepalese students under his name “Tshering Lama Northumbria University Scholarships” from 2006 to 2013. Dr. Lama was the co-founder and the Country Director for Childreach Nepal (2010 Jan to 2016 Dec) and now advisor – a local charity works in partnership with local communities to help improve children’s access to healthcare, education, and child rights and protection in Nepal. Since the establishment the charity has reached out to more than 213,000 children in Nepal and worked with different stakeholders: Nepal Government, the UNICEF and many other organizations and business house to “unlock Nepalese children After the earthquake struck in April 2015, Dr. Tshering Lama lead the way to ensure that children can return to education by building 10 earthquake resistant schools (100 classrooms) two birthing centres and two community centres. Dr Lama further advocate and lead in creating schools as centre for community development (not just for education) and teachers as action researcher and social advocators. Dr Lama strongly believes in Public Private Partnership and practicing Evidence Based Practice to creating new knowledge while making difference. Dr Lama is the Executive Chairman and Co-founder of Idea Studio Nepal: a platform to encourage and empower entrepreneurs to solve social and economic issues faced by the country (www.ideastudionepal.org.np) and also leads the Nepal Institute of Public Policy and Governance (Nepal: IPPG) advices on policies around Governance, Rule of law, local and national development model; and social and impact financing model for local and national government. Dr. Lama is the Chief Enabler of LeadX Nepal a company runs a leadership related training, workshop and conferences and support international collaboration on teaching and researches. Dr Lama is the advisor for the Vice Chancellor’s office of Kathmandu University for Community Engagement and also a visiting lecturer for the leadership module for EMBA and supports PhD students. Furthermore, he leads the Graduate Students Research Grant, supporting 20 graduate students (Masters, MPhil and PhD) yearly towards their thesis and providing supervision in Nepal. Dr Lama advices several international boards including as one of the academic member and judge for the prestigious Global Teacher’s Prize, the winner teacher gets USD 1 million. In 2015, Dr Tshering Lama was selected by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader. He is one of four Nepali’s to receive the honour.
